Post Pick the Best Research House

Hi all,

I am an active investor in markets, but basically have been doing trading and short-term. Now am planning to broaden by horizons...by investing a part of my funds into long-term investments. I have done some self researching, by speaking to few of my fellow investors and checking on the websites of brokerage houses also following CNBC, NDTV profits to shortlist the best brokerage houses for research in long term picks. If some of you could please help me put by your own experience, it would be easier for me to choose the right one or at least a couple of them.

My 5 picks are...they are not ranked...i am just listing them out.

Motilal Oswal

Kotak Securities

Sharekhan

Prabhudas Lilladher

ICICI Direct

pls tell me which would be the best according to ur experience.

thanx Akshay

Hello Akshay,
I have been trading with kotak securities for some time now. I could provide you my feedback about this broking house but can't compare with others as I haven't seen the rest in details.

Overall I would give it a 6/10. Here is my feedback.

Things I like
1) Kotak has two streaming tools KEAT application and Fastlane web browser. Both are very good.

2) Ledger is clear and their gain/loss statements can be queried for years. This documentation too is clearly understandable

3) Customer service has a lot of lines knows their site completely and is quick to correct any mistakes that happen rarley.

4) They provide a max of T+5 days time to pay for a purchase in the secondary market.

5) Money Transfer is instant from ICICI,HDFC, Citibank,UTI and Kotak bank.
Since my account is from Citibank, I prefer this broker as many other don't have instant transfer from Citibank.

Things I wish were better:
1) Brokerage- It cost Rs.400 overall for 1 nifty lot(50) intra day bothways. Seconday market brokerage is also high.

2) Nowadays they have almost stopped uploading their market analaysis , they loaded when they feel one day in a week etc. The derivative analysis and other market news is not available pre-market they are uploaded latter by around 10:30, hence I lost intrest in their recommendations.

3) KEAT application doesn't work behind firewall and shows only BSE proces of scrips.

4) The site is slightly slow at market open maybe beoz of too many users placing orders.

Regards
Pran

since two months ...FAST LANE is not working properly ...by the time you get quotes or you attempt to place order it goes stand still due to heavy volumes ..particularly when gap up and gap down takes place.

on the whole i can understand they have same old infrastructure inspite of growth in clients number ...no load balacing(scalability) and no restructuring of service.

i tried to explain them ..but they never listen ...simply they say clean your cache and temp folder file in ie browser....(although it is automatically erased on every restart on my pc)

keat application ... it is always lagging so much that ..you hardly get chance to play intraday game .

i am looking out for other service providers now ...it is too late i think.

Hey Folks

I am using ICICI Direct (Don't know why ..) deseperately want to switch to some other service provider, may be 5paisa.com.

To start off

1. Poor Service
2. No customer support
3. Site is always under maintaneance (I don't know wht they maintain)
4. Brokerage .. toooooo high
5. Annual manitaneance charge.
6. U will experience a technical problem when u r damn deperate to close a
trade.

+ Points

1. Instant money transfer.
2. Good analysis

Regards
