hi, let me start.....

My mistake was i had the desire to get in first i.e. tried catching bottoms and in the process suffered many losses. But now i have patience which is getting me good profits!!!!!!!!

Then , once in profit , i had the desire to get out first i.e. sell at top.....
But now i use trailing stops which is helping me.

thanx

I changed my methods continously. Every time i had losses i felt there some flaw in the system. but instead of finding out the problem and solving it, i moved from one to another. Now iv become much more Disciplined and settled down with one system. But i had some big time losses in those maniac days. That was the biggest mistake in my trading Career i think.

Thanks

My biggest mistake is I traded on tips given by someone else believing that since i am a novice the tips given by someone who has more experience will be beneficial to me. These tips usually worked 4 in 10 times so over some period i had accumulated more losses. Then started on my own and made decent profits. Now 7 out of 10 times I am successful.

Really good thread and it gave me chance to retrospect.
yes, I too committed same mistakes.
1)Followed tips and incurred huge losses.
2)Buying when market is falling
3)selling when market is rising
4)hoping trend will reverse immediately
and i am sorry to confess, i still fall for them at times

good question....may be i can fill a hundred pages..and then more

apart from all the other ones mentioned above...
wrote ratio spreads in options, even when prices started moving against me, told myself that there is stiff resistence....well i dont have to tell the rest

in my greedy moment that the opportunity is slipping away, i pressed the button fast really fast...and lost 18000 bucks in a shot...how? i pressed sell tap tap tap instead of a buy

when nifty future started falling, i told myself that it will retrace any moment, even tho all indicators were pointing otherwise...broke support...still sat...and sat...and sat....and u know the end of story

even when nifty started the day with a 30 pt up, i told myself that this is just a dead cat bounce...so sold calls instead of buying them...and the rest is clear

Am a n00b, and still comitting all those mistakes.
LOL

I can list three scrips here, that I made foolhardy, hasty decision of buying.
1. HDFC Bank
2. NTPC
3. Ansal Infra

Why I decided to go in them?
I think because they were making all time highs (or atleast 52 week high) at that time.

And then market slipped.
LOL

In such a scenario, what I could've done was to place a sell @ Stop loss.

+ I should've also seen the overbought/oversold indicators - usually they give a very good picture of when to enter a trade - when to exit, now thats your choice :P
