Default Auto-Refreshing Excel file

Hi,
Can anybody tell me whether it's possible to auto-refresh the Excel file that Sharekhan's 'Speedrade' saves?

Speedtrade has an option to save the realtime data in Excel, however one needs to save it again and again to get latest data.

I need the same Excel file to refresh automatically, say in every 1 min or so.

I think macro or some other feature in excel will do the job, however I don't have much idea about Excel. So, if anybody can provide the steps, in layman's language, I'll be grateful.

I am attaching the excel file that is saved from Sharekhan.

Please note that the original file that Speedtrade saves is in .csv format which I have changed to .xls format to be able to upload here.

Thanks in advance.

Chandan

Hi Chandan,

I'm not familiar with sharekhan's speedtrade, but i'll try 2 giv u a solution. Does speedtrade create the csv (or any other format ) file automatically? If so, u can import that into excel like this:

1. Open a blank excel worksheet
2. From menu bar click -Data-->Import external data
3. Select the file created by speedtrade
4. Complete the import process in excel. After this the data will get loaded in excel.
5. If "External Data" tool bar is not visible in ur menu bar, select it by going to --View--->Toolbars
6. In "External data" toolbar, select "Data Range Properties" icon.
7. When the dialog box opens, under "Refresh Control" select refresh frequency.

Hope this solution helps u.

Regards
Raj

Hi Raj,

Thanks for your reply.

I am sorry to say that Speedtrade does not save the .csv file automatically. We have to do it manually by right-clicking on the "Marketwatch" screen and selecting save. The file attached is the one that I saved as above.

As per your steps, I'll import the same file over to a new worksheet, right? Though this new file will refresh, as per your step#7, but I'll get no updated/new data, as the file that I saved from Speedtrade is not updated.

So you see, I need some way to automate the updation of the excel file (the one that is attached) first, so that it gets new data from Speedtrade.

Can it be done?

Chandan

No problem Raj, thanks for your help anyway.

I already have Speedtrade. Will they allow me to have Trade Tiger along with Speedtrade?

BTW what extra features does Trade Tiger have?

Can I get what I want with Trade Tiger?

Hi guys,
Can one of you post me a link to download tiger trade? I'm using speed trade right now and not sure how tiger trade looks and any new features added.

Thanks in advance

I download intraday data end of the day by setting the intraday bar size to one minute ticks or 5 or 15 or hourly by clicking the save data to file option which saves it as csv by default. But don't do it on the trading hours.

You could easily write a macro to refresh the excel by opening or importing the refreshed data. Or other thing you could try is use a second xls sheet and have reference to the refreshed .csv file

prabhu,
Thanks for the link. I think you misunderstood that i have a excel to use. Let me explain again on what i do to download intra day data from speed trade to my TA software FiboTrader.

1. On the chart window 3rd mouse click and set the "Intraday bar size" to what ever time interval you like (i use 1 min)
2. Then click 3rd mouse button on the same chart window and select "Save data to file", this will save data in csv format to speedtrade install dir.
3. Need to cleanup this data and import to Fibo trader for analysis.

clarify me on what you are trying to acheive here: are u trying to look at the chart realtime somewhere else other than speed trade to use your indicators? bit not clear on your objective.
