NSEIndia Data Downloader

Dear Sir,

Thanks for uploading the wonderful utility.

I have few suggestions, which you may consider for inclusion.

i. While appending indices data a blank line appears after equities bhavcopy row. This creates problem when appending data in metastock.
Please remove the occurence of blank line.

ii. while appending indices data the indices name contains blank spaces in the name field. This again creates problem in metastock updater. Please remove blank spaces from indice names.

iii. please keep the output file name fixed say NSEDATA.

Thanks.

While addressing the blank spaces problem with MS (I think some other software also do not like blank spaces), I request Preston to provide, if possible the facility to rename the indices.

Recently NSE changed the data format and all the EOD downloaders failed, till the next revision by the respective developers. This has created inconvenience to users. During this period, one cannot use one of the other downloaders because of the index naming conventions adapted are different with each program.

It would be a very noble gesture from the developer if the facility to rename the indices as per user's choice. Such a facility will not only solve the problem faced with MS, but also help easy migration from other NSE EOD Data Downloaders.

By the way this is fully portable utility. users may place this application in their pen drive and run from there from any system. This will help using from two systems (say home and office). To avail this facility, the data folders may be as a sub folder of the application folder and in the settings only the folder name need to be mentioned.

By the way, is anybody using the portable feature? I have used it once when I went out of city for a few weeks and transferring to laptop and back on return was very easy without any installation.

Thanks to Preston for such a fast stable and 'portable' utility.

Samvet, The latest update removes the last line space between bhavcopy and indice info.
The fixed file name feature is added and you can now enter an alias Indice name and
use indicenames without spaces or anyother name you like!! I trust that you will be happy with the program now!!

Murthy, the update you requested is done!!.. thanks for the feedback and also its nice to know that the program has been usefull to so many people.

Regards,
Preston:)

Hi Preston,

Thanks for the update, I have downloaded today's Bhav copy just now, it is working fine.

<DPPercent> is ok.
No blank line between stocks & Indices.
No spaces in between index names.

But Nifty is shown as ~SPCNXNIFTY test and
Defty is shown as ~SPCNXDEFTY Test.

The words 'test' are with preceeding spaces. Why the word test at all and why again with the preceeding space? The very purpose appears to be lost.

And I have one more observation about the version number/date indication.

The 'About' tab shows the version date as 04-March-2008.
The title bar shown the version as 1.22 07Sep-2009.
But the actual version is 31-Dec-2009.

The date from 'About' Tab may be deleted and correct the date on title bar with every new release(better) or may be deleted from here also(not good).

Information to users of this or any other data downloaders. NSE bhav copy for stocks is ready by about 6 PM but indice data is ready at NSE about an hour later, and some times both may be delayed. If download fails in full or partial, you may check with yesterday's date to check the functionality.

Thanks to Preston for the update.

Happy new year 2010

to Preston and all members of this forum where mutual help is the keyword.

Hello Murthy,
The "test" is because I was testing changing indice names!!, look in historicindice tab and you will find that I have added a new feature to change the indice alias name as per the users choice...If you have a problem using it and changing the indice name to your choice then i'll try and show how to do it in my next post.
Happy new year to you too and to all users on this forum,'Regards,
Preston.

Hi Preston,

Thanks for the update and help file.

It works very fine. I could have used some intelligence to find out the method to assign an alias name myself. Thanks for the help file too.

Now that an alias name can be assigned as per user's choice, the option to add a prefix may be redundant.

Wish you will find a way to add the BSE indices and BSE sectorial indices at your convenience.

Regards.
