Default How to rollover your futures

I had a doubt with futures rollover. Say I had a long position for the current month Oct and this expires on 24 OCT. I would like to roll over my long positions to the next month Nov.

I was thinking this can be done, by the following steps
1> Sell your Oct long.
2> Buy the Nov Long

I am not sure if we have a different way to do a rollover. Can someone help me out here.

Thanks
scorpio

Seems to be the only way to do it. You can do the trades simultaneously to eliminate risk, or stagger the trades to make get a better rate (by taking on some risk).

Thanks for the that guys. I was in a doubt as someone mentioned to me that the brokerage would be less if you do a rollover. (then I was thinking it would be something else)
I wonder how that would be possible. brokerage being less -- the brokers always make money. I like that business.
