1.There a lot to learn so, don't think that you would be starting to earn over night.
2.Choose a trading platform and get well acquainted with it.Know what's happening, ask price, bid price ,which price to refer before buying or selling. And make sure there are no silly mistakes in execution.
3.Don't blow all your money into it nor start doing paper trading(it's worthless).
Just start with Rs.500/- and don't refill until it gets near Rs.100/-
4.Read a good trading book which ever is more relevant to your trading strategy.
And it should be a Indian author and should be in Indian context.

And within 2 to 3 years you will be starting to make profits, unless you are a fervent learner in which case you would be reading a lots of books would get you to earning profits within 6 to 12 months.

Peace

Thanks for the advise, and I realize that it is going to take some time for me to start making a profit. Do you have any recomendations on books I should read, or other websites that I should use to help me learn more about trading?

There are a lot of books from visonbooks publications. If you want to begin with, start reading this book called, "How to make money trading with candlestick charts by Balkrishna M. Sadekar".It's a basic course on candlestick charting. And believe me you have to read this book 2 to 3 times to get started.

I am a business major in school and have always been interested in trading stocks. I just decided that since I have the time while in school I would start learning to day trade so that I may be able to start after school. I would also like to do this so that I can employ myself and will not have to work under anyone. So in other words I want to be my own boss.

Good to know you are getting into day trading at the early age. I suggest you go through the sticky threads in beginners section and day trading sections. And, came across the sharekhan seminars and online sessions recently. within the sharekhan site, click on 'Learn to Trade'.
