Trading using PC, Laptop or Tablet ?

What is your experience using PC, Laptop or Tablet for Day Trading ?

Which is better considering the fact that Day Trading requires reliable internet connection, fast response & clear/fine charts ?

In my opinion

No. 1 Laptop
No. 2 PC
No. 3 Tablet

As you all know that you require uninterrupted power supply and internet connection for your trading terminal, charting software, laptop is the best, as no problem of power cut and no internet disconnection, as you will be using data card.

I am using PC for my trading purpose and NOW/Odin as trading platform and amibroker (via Odin) for charting. I am just fed up of using PC.

Though there is no power cut (normally) in our area, but because of slightest disconnection of internet due to minor fluctuation or other reason in power supply, NOW/ODIN stops functioning and so the charting in amibroker (via Odin) and it takes about 4-5 minutes of precious (may be) time to continue.

But in the meantime, the data is poisoned due to non filling of data of this time gap, so the charting values may be wrong due to this. And if there is a power cut (like this week due to grid failure) then only GOD can save.

By using laptop you get rid of these problems. However I may be missing, if there is any problem by using laptop, as I have never used laptop for trading purpose. But spending/investing 30-40K for laptop is an issue for a small trader/investor.

NO, NO! I do not have power problem in my area, It is only internet connection which disconnects for a second or so because of fluctuation and because of this trading platform stops and because of this charting software. So you can see this continuity.

And I do not think by using battery (I think you are talking of battery invertor) this problem will get solved, as changeover to battery will take a second or so and it will be the same as stated above.

First, if you are using a router, immediately change the power adaptor. It costs about 125 rs, and would solve most of your intermittent disconnection problems.

Second, get a UPS, if prb is not solved, costing around 1200. This will prevent fluctuations from reaching your router.

Thanks for advice.

Yes, I am using a router for my internet connection. What sort of power adapter you advice to change with. I have no problem in changing adapter but why do you think that intermittent disconnection problems (IDP) are due to this, as I face no such IDP during normal working on computer, but only for NOW/ODIN

Yes, I am also using an UPS but the router connection is direct not through UPS. I will now connect it thro UPS.

Do the connection through UPS, and you will be a happy man :D

PC:
I have been using PC for all my trading. One of the problems I face is power shutdown. I have an UPS. But it does not stand for even 30min. I do not want to invest in a large UPS. Other problem is I will not be able to trade when I am away from my desk.

Laptop:
I have not actually tried using Laptop for trading. I just tried looking at charts. I feel sad at the way charts look on a Laptop (I may be wrong). On a PC I use 800x600 resolution for display. I find this very comfortable. I have a doubt if I can get such a resolution on Laptop. Other thing I do not like is the keyboard. It is narrow compared to a PC keyboard. I find it difficult typing at a speed on Laptop keyboard. In fact I have to search for the keys. Good thing about Laptop is Battery & Portability. I can carry it anywhere for trading.

Tablet:
I have not tried this. But I feel it is too small for a regular trader when it comes to charts. I do not know how comfortable I will be with touch screen keyboard. It is like giving a pocket calculator (instead of desk calculator) to an accountant.

What's your say on this ?
