A lot of Questions

#1
Hello everybody,

my name is Mike and I have trading experience in European, US and Russia markets for more than 10 years.
Now I am trying to enter in the Indian stock market.
I have a lot of questions concerning the Indian market and I hope I will find help here. Please do not be mad with me, when some of my questions have been already asked. I apologize for this in advance.

So here we go.

1) Is simpe arbitrage between NSE and BSE possible. For example buy at BSE and sell at NSE ??

2) If it is not possible for individuals, is it possible for institutionals? If so, what is the difference, why they can?

3) Can I short every stock intraday? Or are there any exceptions?

4) What do I have to do, to short a stock for a longer time? Do you have a kind of securtiy lending in India?

5) What are the main differences between NSE and BSE?

Thats all for the beginning.

Guys, I would be more than happy if you could help me with my questions. If you have any questions concerning US or European markets, feel fre to ask. I would be happy to help you.

Hey Mike,

Welcome. US markets are bread n butter for me, though not as experienced as you. The following links may help:

http://www.traderji.com/beginners-guide/18608-what-difference-beween-trading-nse-bse.html

http://www.traderji.com/beginners-guide/22874-faqs-thread.html

The guide by Susan Thomas gives a very good intro.

NP abt the Qs, we get them time n again from ppl here as well :)

BTW, are you daytrading or take overnyt positions?

Hi Trader111,

I am definitely a daytader.
I am doing 200-300 trades a day, but from time to time I also have small position trades. These positions are kept for a few days and rarely for more than a week.

Hi Mike

1) Is simpe arbitrage between NSE and BSE possible. For example buy at BSE and sell at NSE ??
Yes, There Is An Arbitrage Trade Window That Opens For Arbitrageurs, You Can Also get Cut Price Between The Two.

3) Can I short every stock intraday? Or are there any exceptions?
Yes, You Can.....But You May Not Be Able To For Stocks Placed Under 'Trade2Trade' But Not Sure Somebody Else Will Need To Confirm T2T Ones.

4) What do I have to do, to short a stock for a longer time? Do you have a kind of securtiy lending in India?
There Is Security Lending & Borrowing Which Has Come Into Effect Recently, But Only Those That Are Traded In The Derivatives Segment. In Terms Of How To Go About Borrowing, You Will Need To Check With Your Broker Regarding Details

5) What are the main differences between NSE and BSE?
BSE Existed Much Before NSE Came Into Existence.
BSE In True Sense Would Be A Regional Stock Exchange Just Like Many Other Regional Stock Exchanges.
SEBI (Securities & Exchange Board Of India) Is The Regulatory Authority For All Stock Exchanges In India Same As You Have SEC In U.S.

Listing Norms For NSE Is A Little More Stringent Than BSE, Therefore, Ones That Don't Make It To NSE List On BSE. There Are Also Many Other Reasons Unknown To Me, For Some Preferring BSE, Cost Not Being The Only Factor In The Equation

Happy & Safe Trading

You are a Scalper not a day trader as Trader111 would say. To do say 250 trades, in NSE you get less than 1.4 mins per trade. With in this time period most of the stocks donot move so fast that we can cover the brokerage and other taxess. We will have 250 trade losses per day at this rate.
