Did anybody try to backfill historical data from nseindia.com ? I am facing unreliability with yahoo.com where last several days' quotes are often skipped. In that regard, nseindia seems to be more reliable.

thanks for your help.

Rohit.

Getting Yahoo data into this :
======================
1. I have enclosed a txt file with NSE stock codes.Download this and save it with a ".csv" extension.

2. Run FCharts.

3. Click on the "Settings" - it is between "Drawing" & "Help" on the left side.

a. In the pop-up..click on price cleanup.
b. In the next pop-up click on "Delete All Prices and All Companies".. This
will delete all unwanted data first.Exit pop-up.

4. Next click on "Import Export" - on left upper side.

a. In the pop-up click on "Other Data"...in the next pop-up "Import tickers".
Select the ".csv" file that you saved. This will import the stock codes.

5. Next again click on "Settings".

a. In the pop-up click on "Downloader". Paste this url in "Data downloader"
and "Backfill Url"

http://ichart.finance.yahoo.com/table.csv?s=@@@.NS&d=eMM&e=eDD&f=eYYYY&g=d&a=sMM&b =sDD&c=sYYYY&ignore=.csv

b. Change the "Start Date" & "End Date" to whatever dates you want. Exit.

6. Again click "Settings".."Other Urls" and paste this url.

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=@@@.NS&d=v1

Exit by pressing "OK".

7. Now,On top you will see 5 drop down lists. Select All() in the second and the third drop downs. In the fourth drop down if you click on the down arrow you will be able to see the stock codes that you imported earlier. Highlight the code for which you wish to download historical data.

8.On the top big window, Right-click...this will give a pop-up with "Data" as one of the options. Click on it,and then on.."Download 12 months using back refill Url".

Thats it. You are done. Repeat 7 & 8 for as many stocks as you want.

I will clarify further if necessary.

If you are using Medved QUotetracker...you can further connect Fcharts and quotetracker for intraday data uploading also. If anyone needs info on how to do this I will explain.

Best Wishes
Shri.

Hi All,

I am using another way of importing data into Fcharts offline successfully. I follow the steps as under:
1. Download Bhavcopy (EOD) from NSE website (accessible free)
2. Open the file in MS Excel
3. Save the file in CSV format with columns SYMBOL, Date (dd-MMM-yy eg. 11-May-05), Open, High, Close and Volume
4. Import the file using Import price files option of Fcharts

Presently I am using it with EOD price data only because I am not aware where from to get intraday data downloaded. If anybody is aware of it please help me.

Hope you all benefit with above.

friends,

Please confirm can you all get the data from Yahoo! Otherwise there is an alternative which I am coming up with. In 4-5 days, I will give that a final shape as such it works with FCharts.

FCharts is a very good software, but provides only few indicators. Thats enough for a free Software isn't it?

HEllo,

I am using FCharts for last 4 months. This is an excellant software (much better than Wall Street Analyzer). However, the free version lack some good features of upgrades version i.e. PRO. The cost is very less and I am sure it is affordable.

About data,

There is a yahoo group (I am a member of this group) which puts EOD data fro BSE and NSE equities and futures and options on daily basis. You can download this EOD data (this is csv file format) and change the first line <date> to <DTMM/DD/YYYY> and load data using Import/import file option. This works well for me.

I have eod data for NSE and BSE for 2001 onwards loaded into FCharts. Also, a full list of symbols for BSE and NSE. (some latest entrants name need to be added, though symbol is there).

IF anyone need data from 1/1/2001 till June 2005 (Only equity data, NO FUTURES or OPTIONS), let me know. The data is not adjusted for Bonus/Splits etc. There is a provision in FCharts to do this as well as changing of the Ticker.

Happy investing.

Regards,
Vijay Nair
