Good to know that quite a few believe that google is a countable source of live intraday data. Has anybody made any efforts to use this data? Please share information on how you have attempted to download?

1) At Google finance site.

2) On Google documents

3) By downloading onto your system, may be into an excel file or otherwise.

Thanks.

Hi all,

The poll clearly shows that google data is superior to Yahoo. This may be more out of a wishful thinking than an observation.

Tha tools available to view intraday data (Live or at end of the Day) for yahoo are many but unfortunately for Google there are a very very few.

I (having voted for Google, more on a wishful thimking) wanted to check the truth. I have used the EOD Data downloader by jdm with one minute option ( available at the software section) and compared the quality of data downloaded.

The observations based on the data downloaded for BSE Auto sector index (Symbol - BSE-AUTO.BO for yahoo and .bseauto, indexbom for google) are:

1) Google data is available from 09:55 (old trading timings), but Yahoo data starts from 09:00 onwards. When does Google wakes up to make the necessary changes? It may be necessary that more traders / investors may have to appeal to them.

2) While Yahoo data was missing for some minutes, google data was complete for every minute.

3) The open, high, low and close was compared every minute. The data does not exactly match may be due to time synchronisation (or non-synchronisation) isuues, but is fairly comparable and either source can be depended upon. Such differences are more in the Afternoon session, may be after European markets opened. This could be because one of the sources is sharing some facility with European market.

The difference is in the order of 0.01 % in the morning hours but by the afternoon, they are sometimes 0.1% for some bars. As I did not use the live data for comparision, I could not say which source data is behind in the afternoon times.

Others who have analyzed either or both of the sources may also post their observations.

Thanks for your time.

Murty...thanks for ur observations

Overwhelming response to Google RT data

Probably Joy can make some utility, without waiting for those Volume issues to get resolved...(i think, he had said somewhere that there are issues with Volume in Google)

It wud help those who trade without much concern on Volume

Joy / others plz help us all

In continuation to my earlier post, I would supplement:

After my earlier post, I have checked the data for some NSE stocks, some NSE Indices, some BSE stocks and some BSE Indices.

I was surprised to note that ONLY for BSE Indices, the data is seen from 09:55, where as in all the other three cases it starts from 09:00. It is a clear case of omission. But when do they make the timings change for BSE indices also?

A further investigation revealed that if I download only one day data of a BSE Indice through the jdm data downloader, the data starts from 09:55. If I download for 10 days, the first day's data (oldest day;s data starts from 09:55 and all subsequent day's including the latest day's data starts from 09:00. It may not be a major issue, and it could be due to a glitch in the downloader also

By a separate post, I am drawing attention of jdm to this observation for his comments.

Download free NSE Historical Tick data
Also available are Realtime & Historical Intraday charts with Bollinger bands & RSI.
Thanks for the links though it may be OT in a real-time data thread but...

I checked the tick data. It has some oddities:
- not really tick data, can be about a minute apart
- no volume data
- sometimes, the timestamp is out of sequence, for example
Code:
reliance,2010-4-1,14:18:8,1092.55
reliance,2010-4-1,14:18:46,1092.3
reliance,2010-4-1,14:18:45,1092.2
reliance,2010-4-1,14:19:55,1092.2
reliance,2010-4-1,14:19:48,1092.2
