In the US we use percentage stop losses. Typically, 5 % below the current price, never more than 20%.

even in the US day traders use points, you are only right about positional trades.

whatever type.......stoploss is must.....else , sooner than later , the profit is stopped & one cannot stop a loss .....going forward , the trader is stopped from trading.;)

    Dear rvlv,

Your article describing STOPLOSS as MEDICINE is very good.

Even if you don't use mechanical stops, simply figure the ponts by percentage in your head. When it drops to that level, sell. NEVER let losses grow.

Well thanks a lot to post this stuff.... I know everything abt SL like everyone here ... but I have hardly followed it... Even today I am little "emotional" in triggering my SL.... But after Saint mentioned to me that get out of a trade "Mechanically" when SL is hit... I followed that... par phir bhi "dil hain ki manta nahi"...

I used to always keep a SL before gettin into the trade... and I still do... but earlier I never used to follow... Never...

    But now I follow "often"

And now on I will follow all the time... taking it as a medicine... I never thought abt it...

    Good one Friend! :)

    Regards

Can any1 please take the pain to explain me how 2 place a stoploss order or a trailing stop in this following example:
XYZ@100, say it is buy signal then what should be the limit price and SLtrigger price if 85 is the immediate support and resistance is 130.
please dont worry abt risk reward here it is just to understand 4 me.
As in the above example I am trying 2 place 85 as SL but cudnt..

If the price goes in my favour say to 130 and how to lock the profit or trailing stop.??
