No Nifty volume data on NSEINDIA.COM

#1
hello all

i get my nifty index EOD from the nseindia site here is the link: http://www.nseindia.com/content/indices/ind_histvalues.htm

but this does not show volume. everything else is perfect, we can get it in .csv format to use as ASCII in any TA software, but without volume its no use (for me at least)

for securities the NSE site provides all info, volume, OI etc. then where can i get nifty index EOD with the volume :-(

I'm sure i'm overlooking something silly, please assist

thanks in advance

An index is is a composite entity. Its not a real scrip. Hence it properly does not have volume as such. But I see many data providers giving volume with indices. I don't know how they do it. Also the volume data for Nifty provided by data one provider does not tally with another data provider. I have questioned my data provider about it. They could not give a satisfactory answer except for the fact that we get the data that way.

Laksh I agree with you about the nifty not having its own volume, but thats exactly my point, how does someone like ichart.in and others have bars in their online charts.

Does this imply that we take the average volume of all the 50 current scrips? it has to be more to it than that, considering ours is a market capital wise index.

NSE or yah00 does not provide volume for nifty.
But you can calculate one for you.

Download following file daily for all the necessary calculations.

http://www.nseindia.com/content/indices/niftymcwb.csv

Open the file in excel ,
Take turnovers of nifty 50 stock in proportion as they are weighted to calculate nifty's.
you can create excel macro for the purpose.
This is the most accurate method than relying on others.

hi omkar!

Thanks, can you give me path to locate that file....(.nsehome page..>indices-> **unable to locate there after.)

regards
subas
subas,

The link I gave in the first post is direct from NSE. & it is updated daily by nse.
so to download the file you dont have to go to nse site.

if you need the path, browse Home > Indices > Statistics
section at nse site.
