I would like to know if anyone has opened and operating an ICICI Direct account..

I want to know if/how can I open an NRE account on repatriable basis and trading Equities and Mutual funds.

I have been trying to contact ICICI thru email and everytime, I get a standard 300 lines cut-and-paste reply which is useless..

As far as I know, US and Canadian residents cannot do online trading because of some wierd rule. (That's what ICICIDirect folks told an NRI friend of mine when he was in India and wanted to open an account). Your best option is to open an account in someone else's name (someone residing in India, close to you and you can trust) and trade on their behalf.

In case you want to track the Indian Markets, I would highly recommend a Free Software - Investar Basic 2007. It has in-built Portfolio Management along with Fundamental and Technical Analysis and several Technical and Fundamental Scans for all stocks traded on NSE & BSE.

    Good Luck!!

    Hi.
ICICI direct account can be opened by NRI's in the Gulf. They have office in Dubai.
    Regards...
