How and Why NSE, which was established only in 1994 quickly surpassed BSE and other exchanges and became the dominant exchange in India?

Bombay Stock Exchange was established in 1875 and was the oldest and most famous exchange in India. It is the BSE building that is always shown as a symbol of stock exchange in India. Then what happened that led to its downfall?...

NSE is was a more modern exchange at the time, BSE was still technologically behind. You should notice that even though NSE has more volume, BSE still have more listed companies.
