Nifty
Lot Size: 50 units
Margin Money required: Little more than 10%...... At present levels around 24000-25000 for 1 lot.....

Minifty
Lot Size: 20 units
Margin required: >10%... At present levels around 10000 for 1 lot......

BankNifty
Lot Size: 25 units
Margin required: around 11%......... At present levels around 24000-25000 for 1 lot.....

S&P 500
Lot Size: 250 units
Margin required: around 11%......... At present levels around 32000-33000 for 1 lot.....

Dow Jones
Lot Size: 25 units
Margin required: > 10%......... At present levels around 29000-30000 for 1 lot.....

---------
Margin mentioned above is for Overnight positions..... For Intraday most of the brokers let you take position with 50% of the above mentioned figures..... For eg: For Nifty Intraday around 12000-12500.....

Nifty, Minifty and BankNifty have excellent volumes....

Hope this helps :)

Thank you very much adi bhai ..mereko pata tha sabse phle aap hi reply karoge :p :D

Achha so ye sab trade karne ke liye u need all the above mentioned amount for keeping overnight position example like nifty u need 25k for trading 1 lot and keeping overnight position and if you want to trade intraday on nifty you need half of the margin 25/2 = 12 k . so you need 12k for intraday trading and per point you get 50rs ! right ??

Yes for both post # 4 & 5 ;)

And the margin for Intraday depends upon your broker.... But most of them let you trade for 50% of Overnight margin..... You need to confirm this from YOUR broker :)

Thank you adi bhai again, 1 more query Like for example keeping overnight position we need 10% of the required margin and that is around 25k for 1 lot and for intraday we need 50% of the 10% and that is 12k,

Suppose if someone has 50k ,and he wants to keep the position overnight how many lots can he open ? is it like 25k for 1 lot so (25+25) = 50k = 2 lots and if he has 75k he can open 3 lots and keep it open for days ?

same for the intraday trading suppose if he has 25k and he want to trade intraday so as example 50% of margin required (12k) so how many lots can h open, 2 lots ? as (12k for 1 lot so 25k for 2 lots) does it work like this?

thank you

Saif,

Total Margin = Intial Margin+Exposure Margin

While Initial Margin percentage changes...... due to VAR (Value At Risk) Exposure Margin which is usually 3% for Index Futures remains the same for that particular expiry...... and whether it remains the same or there is any change in percentage is intimated through a circular from the exchange before the start of the next month.

Unlike FX where a Standard Lot size is $100,000 and one can take any fraction thereof.... it is not so with NSE Futures.... Lot sizes for various Futures are explained by Aditya.....

For eg Nifty Future lot size is 50 meaning 50=1 Lot.
Considering Nifty Future closed @ 4800
Value of the future is 50 x 4800 = 240,000 Rupees and to take a position you just need a fraction of 2.4 Lac.....

Therefore, if you are going to deposit 1 lac in your trading account it would not be advisable to take position of more than 1 lot if you trade Intraday.... you need to have extra money in your ledger to take care of your MTM losses as well.........

For Intraday... Aditya was just giving you a thumb rule.... but you need atleast Initial Margin to Trade Intraday.... and for keeping overnight position you need the additional Exposure Margin as well.......
