What to make out from global trends?

Hi,
Are mining stocks a better play in the bull cycle of metals or the trading type of companies?
Or buying the the actuall metal would be more rewarding, than the stocks as they are more market driven.
What Indian stocks would u guys suggest in the metal play and why?:)
