PAN Card duplicate !!

Hi All

I have misplaced my PAN card, and with this recent sebi directive, icici is not permitting to operate my A/c after 27th. Can anyone pls help me with the procedure to get a duplicate one issued.

If you have a xerox copy of the card or posses the PAN letter or remember the PAN number and other details correctly, you can apply for issue of a duplicate PAN card. One easy way to do so is apply online through www.tin-nsdl.com

Duplicate in that article refers to having more than one PAN card with different PAN nos. Here, Vizzie will get a duplicate copy of the original PAN card bearing the old PAN no.

The two things are different.

I see yr point , but can u help me understand what Mr Sinha means by saying (see last line in story) that duplicate PAN cards are not being issued since 2004 .

So he implies that before 2004, many guys were legally issued duplicate PAN cards, meaning different nos ?

Why would the Govt do that, except under misrepresentation by the applicant ? And if that is so, how come they have managed to plug this fraudulent practice overnight , 2005 onwards ?
