Online Trading Account

#1
Hello,

A friend of mine is looking to open a demat account with online trading facility.

1. She is NOT a frequent trader
2. Prefers investing in buy-and-hold fashion (seldom sells!)
3. Definitely NOT a day-trader
4. Needs the faclity to apply for IPOs online
5. Prefers a web-based client that will work behind corporate firewall
6. Prefers an online account that can be used from abroad when going on short-trips

Please suggest on her options. Cheaper the Better ;)

I know, there are some posts/threads available providing nice pointers. Still, nothing like a custom-made solution ;)

Cheers,
Ramesh

Hi Ramesh,

Looking at your friend's requirements, I too would suggest ICICIDirect. Very convenient, hassle-free trading, and probably the only one which works behind corporate firewalls. However, its the most expensive in terms of brokerage, but since your friend has a buy and hold strategy, it doesnt matter too much.

Cheers,

Pranay

Thanks a lot for taking the time-off to reply! :)

Looks like ICICI Direct is a good choice. Just curious about these other options... how do they compare against ICICI Direct?
1. Kotak Securities
2. HDFC Securities

I believe Indiabulls, Sharekhan and 5Paisa do not support web-browser based online trading. Please correct me if I am wrong! :D

Thanks Again!
