Demat a/c | PAN opening - min age?

Hello everyone,

I have a very noob question. I tried to search through the form for the answer but couldn't. Is there any minimum age to open a demat a/c or to get a PAN #?
I plan to open a demat a/c for my 15 yr old sis, and invest into debt market so there is money for her 5-6 yrs down the lane to fund higher studies/pocket money etc.

Your experiences shared are greatly appreciated.

I think if you Google for PAN number or for Income Tax, you should get a lot of material to read..

There is no minimum age as such. If a minor has taxable income, s/he will need to get a PAN. However, a minor can't open a Demat or Brokerage Account on his own as he can't enter into a contract. He can do so only if the account opening form is signed by the parents/guardian as well.
