Success Rate of Tips: A Study

Hi fellow traders,
To be or not to be that is a big question specially when it comes to following the tips given by various fund houses. Well, here is a simple study to start with, just check it out and decide for yourself.

I have tried to include all the tips from various fund houses, which were freely available to me, but might have missed out on some, so this may not be comprehensive sample.

Time period is from 1st January 2010 to 13th September 2010. Prices are as on 13th September 2010.

In case of any question please feel free to reply to the thread, I will try to answer to it with best of my abilities.

Hi

Thank you for the files, I found only 2 tips for Geojit, is it possible for you to have a check on ICICI Direct as well, I think they have a strike rate of 60% on average and also the newbie Edelweisis they seems to be giving good research.

Sorry friends, I used all the tips I had access to, I am trying to get hold of tips from more broking houses and will update my study as and when possible. I myself would like to check out the success rate of Edelweisis in particular, and all other companies like Reliance & ICICI in general.

Dear Shivagnee, first of all, my heartfelt appreciation for putting this study on the forum. Thank you for the information and a great analysis.

Please can you share with us whether your analysis is on fundament calls, OR it includes both? I think we need to bifurcate success rate of fundament calls and technical calls, to arrive at some meaningful conclusion. Based on my experience, brokerages has totally different skill sets for both this studies, and for investors it is necessary that they follow brokers that are good at fundamental studies. BTW having a good fundament team is far more costlier than having few people on the technical side. It is fundamental research through which lots of wealth can be created; We have heard of many people who have made tons of wealth following fundamental study(Warren Buffet), but we could hardly recall a name who made it big following technicals.

Dear VDT,
I agree with you totally that at the end of the day its the investor who walks home with major profit. All of the tips were given for at-least mid term horizon, with research report and all that, so I would assume it was more of a fundamental call than anything else.

This is definitely the most thorough study I've come across on Tips.

There is also another website http://www.rankmytip.com/ but it is not as thorough as the one you provided.

Can you please mention the source as to how did you get tips from so many places? Like weblinks and such.
