Gurus Please help - Angel Broking or India Bulls

Hi,

I have been doing a lot of research for almost 2 to 3 months now to select a suitable broker, however, still in dilemma. In the mean time, I opened an account with Sharekhan. By that time HDFC offered me a free trading account. SO all in all i have 2 active accounts. The reason for looking for a third is :

Sharekhan - Exposure is limited to few scrips only. Everytime it says 'in group scrip margin trading is not allowed' - ridiculous. Also I am not getting the trade calls even after repeated follow up.

HDFC - Brokerage is high. The interface is clumsy and requires lot of back and forth. No provision for Market watch.

My short listed brokers are : India Bulls, Angel Broking, India Infoline and Kotak.

I read quite a good number of negative feedback about Kotak of late and hence opted out.

On the other 3, the comparison goes like this:

India Bulls:
Account Opening - Rs. 900
AMC - Nil
Brokerage intraday - 0.025 both sides
Brokerage delivery - 0.25 both sides
Futures - same as intraday
Options - Rs. 50 per lot or 1 %, whichever is higher
Commodities and currency - same as intraday
Power India Bulls - Free till the offer period and 750 per year thereafter.
Initial Margin - Though they have not said anything, I plan for 25000.
No prepaid brokerage.
Exposure - 12 times for intraday and 3 times for delivery. Here is the catch, if my margin amount is less than 50000, i need to settle the entire amount if i want to make my transactions converted to delivery, else, trade value in excess of margin amount will be squared off automatically. However, if my margin is >= 50000, i can carry the transaction (worth upto 3 times) till 7th calendar day, thereafter interest @ 19.5 % will apply.
Trading Calls - apart from regular emails, there will be live calls provided by the RM from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm over yahoo/google messengers.

Angel Broking:

Account Opening - Rs. 500 ( This will be waived off if initial margin is >= 25000)
AMC - 300
Brokerage intraday - 0.025 both sides
Brokerage delivery - 0.25 both sides
Futures - same as intraday
Options - Rs. 100 per lot or 0.5 %, whichever is higher
Commodities and currency - same as intraday
Software Angel Diet - Free
Initial Margin - Though they have not said anything, I plan for 25000 to have the account opening charge waived off.
No prepaid brokerage.
Exposure - 5 times. I can carry forward my intraday transactions to delivery without settling the full amount till 3rd day, thereafter interest @ 16 % will apply.
Trading Calls - via sms. Online Pop up.

I had an a/c with Motilal Oswal then Angel got in touch and gave me a swell deal. Their Diet Odin software is as good as any other. They will ask you for upfront deposit / pre paid cash back brokerage...dont go for tht..settle for 0.03 % intra day one way and bothways for delivery in (F&O, cash and commodties) segment. Cash buying on delivery settle for 0.2%.

Once u gain confidence and generate volumes ..ask for a reduction in F&O and commodities segment.

Thanks Shyam for the response. Are you from Bangalore ?
In case of Angel, how could you manage to get these brokerage ? Angel is willing to give me 0.02 % and 0.2 % if the initial margin is Rs.50 K or more. Futures is same as intraday and to start with I am not very keen on futures and options. May be i can bargain later, if i wish to go for F&O.

On HDFC, yes they started with intraday 0.05 % and later decreased my brokerage to 0.03 %. Delivery is still 0.5 %. And you are right there is no F&O in their web version.

How do you find Angel service overally and specifically account related and settlement related ?

Hi
I have opened an account in IndiaBulls but they are giving me the brokerage of 0.50% on delivery and 0.05% on intraday.(per side)
I have asked for the cheapest brokerage they have then they told me that i can opt for advance(prepaid) brokerage plan which is Rs.10000 as margin valid for 12 months and the brokerage becomes 0.30% for delivery and 0.03% for intraday.(per side)

Please tell me is this deal right ? Can i get my brokerage lowered without this or are there any volume commitments as i am a small trader.

Hi Buddy, I am from Mumbai & trading with Angel since long. To get better brokerages, you may offer to deposit more margin amount while account opening or choose for advance brokerage. This should help you negotiate the brokerages to a large extent. further, I started with Rs. 100,000 hence the same. For futures & options also, Angel seems much economical than others. Their customer care is quite good. I have been alloted a dealer who calls me frequently & suggests to invest in stocks recommended. Moreover, their Risk mgmt policy is also little flexible & found overall pretty good vis-a-vis other brokers. I have an account with MOSL, Share Khan, Standard Chartered Capital Markets, HDFC Sec, Anandrathi.... But trades generally with Angel due to better customer service & advantages..... Cheers!

Hi 0.05% - Intraday, both legs seems quite expensive. Further on a prepaid amount of Rs. 10000, brokerage of 0.03% again seems to be much higher vis-a-vis other broking houses. I would suggest you to bargain on the brokerage by depositing more margin amount... If not, they are not the only broking service providers. I mean, choose some other broker.... Cheers!

Hi, As Shyam has mentioned, the brokerage you are mentioning is certainly higher. Hope you have gone through my first post where I have mentioned about the brokerages offered by Indiabulls in Bangalore. I would not suggest a prepaid brokerage, especially for new traders, unless you know exactly what you are doing. Its like once the money is there with them, by default attention becomes less. Try to increase your margin amount and then bargain for better brokerage, I am sure they will offer less - its a cut throat competition now. If you can indicate about your margin and daily volume that you intend to do we will try to suggest a better brokerage.
