Don't you think that it is better to be with reliable big banks like icicidirect, hdfcsecurities, kotaksecurities, sbi, etc. (although they charge very high brokerage) rather than go for private brokerage houses in the search of low brokerage and risk safety of our money? How reliable are these brokerages considering that we often hear about brokerage houses going bust and being involved in scams? I would prefer the safety of a bank brokerage house over all these other very well advertised brokers like sharekhan, geojit, r.k. global ( is it a listed co.? ).

I would agree with your concerns especially if you plan on holding shares for long periods and you want to be on the safe side. Other people would try to get low AMC but the obvious tradeoff is higher brokerage which is okay considering you might trade infrequently. Most non bank brokers like sharekhan, Geojit are well established. Its the lesser well known brokers you have to be wary( careful) of. But the thumb rule is always to keep less margin upfront with the brokers.This is because the margin is taken as a committment to equal or exceed this amount in brokerage ( in order to have it charged to brokerage).

I am still looking for a good 3 in 1 Bank Brokerage House which can give competitive brokerage of 0.01% in F & O (with or without upfront brokerage if necessary) . Can any one help?
