Trading on a Mac

That site may work for Firefox, but it does NOT mean that it works on Mac :D
Please explain why not but in as simple language as you can since I'm not a techie :).

If you are right, that means even though a page is written in absolutely good code such that any browser can read it, it would still depend on the computer's OS?

Incidentally, since you seem a bit active in these matters :D, have you looked at ICICI-Prudential's Prutracker? That works superficially with various browsers but when you get down to transacting it turns out you must have enabled ActiveX in Internet Explorer on your PC running Windows. Otherwise, you're out of luck!

Simple. I am also a Mac Desktop user in my house, and NOT a SINGLE Broker's program works on it. I can only use my Acer Ferrari for online trading programs. That is why, a fortnight ago, I spent over TWO HOURS with the chief of Customer Services of India Infoline [5Paisa] and convinced the whole team that it is a high time someone considers to develop a program that works on Mac. They have agreed but I have no idea, as to when they shall be successful in offering such program to the clients.

I also had many other suggestions for giving advantage to the regular clients that were accepted, but I need NOT give the details hee, as they were NOT related to Mac.

Hi SS

Has there been any progress yet towards a Mac-compatible trading program?

I am using a Macbook. I cannot even run the web-based Fast-trade of Sharekhan, as it is based on MS Java!! :annoyed:

Am not sure if they are aware of Sun Java... but am sure they do not know what a Mac is. I have personally confirmed it.

I'm sure there should be a way to run Java on mac. I am not sure but have to tried some open source tools like openjdk?

There could be another problem like the broker requiring IE for their software to work.

Yes LT, Mac does run Sun Java very well. In fact I am able to browse most Java based charts available on the net on the mac. Only Sharekhan seems to still live in primitive times, stuck with msjava. In fact they require you to disable Sun Java to run their Fast trade window.

But what I am looking for is an equivalent of exe-like installable trading programs.

Yesterday I found that Power India Bulls have a downloadable version for Mac. Will try to install that and then update the thread. Hope that'll work...hate to go back to MS Windows... :(

Regards,

S

Try below links

http://wiki.winehq.org/MacOSX
http://davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/
http://sourceforge.net/projects/darwine/

Also look into
http://www.codeweavers.com/products/

There are s/w which can run Windows OS itself on Mac, but they are not free.
VMWare Fusion(30 days trial) is one option
http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/

3 years back i used to work only on MAC OS 10.3.x(Panther), 10.4.x(Tiger)
i had similar problems, that time microsft virtual pc helped me lot for running windows application.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/

Not sure how its going to behave now, i think MAC OS X support is now removed(deprecated)

Now i have SuSE desktop and Dual boot Mac Book Pro which runs Mac as well as Windows 7.

Great to see people using MAC here :thumb:

I never know wine worked on mac. I don't see it here either http://www.winehq.org/download/

I don't use a mac. I use Linux!
But have to shift back to PC because there are no good TA software for linux and the brokers are so dumb they don't even know that there is more to a computer than Intel and Microsoft.

Thanks for the links!

friend, Why care about platform when you are a positional trader. You can just make a call and ask the Customer Service executive to buy/sell shares on your behalf.

You can watch live prices at nseindia.com bseindia.com or money.rediff.com or y ahoo finance.

Since you are a swing/positional trader, you should opt for lowest brokerage possible, which is "Justtrade" from bajaj capital. visit www.justtrade.in. The brokerage is zero!!! for prepaid offer.
