I have purchased 1 lot of DEC Minifty futures on 25 Nov. I could find the open position on 25th as well as 26th (Last day for Nov futures).

And I expected that I would see the ONE lot of Dec Minifty in the net position window on 27 Nov (First day for the new series) morning also. But my net position showed only ZERO throughout the trading hours of 27 Nov.

Just now (Sunday evening), when I checked again, I found my 1 Lot in the net position window. This enables me to close the position tomorrow (Monday) depending on market condition.

My question is: Can I not trade (sell) my position on 27 Nov? If I have gone short on 27 Nov with 1 Lot of minifty, what would have been my net position by 30th (Monday) morning?

My broker is CANMONEY which uses TradeAnyWhere.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Hi Murthy,

Irrespective of Expiry ,Futures will be reflected in net position
immediately.I do not why this has not happened in your case.
May be some software glitch at broker's end.
So the first part of your question is irrelevant ,because you can
sell them at ant time after you purchase on 25.
If you went SHORT on 27 (you were LONG on 25) ,the net position
on 30th is ZERO.

Did you have enough MTM margin? Its possible that because the market fell early and fast, your MTM must have got exhausted and hence broker must have automatically closed the position.

Have you got any contract note?

I had enough MTM margin.

Broker has not squared off. My daily transaction statement does not show such closure of position by broker.

Further, if so, today (Sunday) evening, I could not have seen my OPEN position back as I was wishing to see on Friday.

Tanks for your response.

Net position showed one Long on 25th as well as on 26th .. But NOT on 27th only.

Could be, I will checkup with my broker tomorrow.

As it was not reflected in the net position window on 27th, I did not close my position though market was crashing in the morning. May be, as you said, I could have gone short, which results in closure of my open long position. Anyway, some consolation is that European markets and NSE reversed the trend in second half.

Thanks for your response.

Hi Shanki ,

  1. How is ventura secu...Do they give ODN clnt or web based clnt ?
  2. How is the brokerage - Do they charge something monthly like RKGLOBAL or is it like Sharekhan / Indiabulls who do not charge monthly for the software .
  3. What is the brokerage for Options ( e.g IF i BUY NIFTY CE@5100 Pre=133 - what would the brokerage be charged on ...either on buy or on sell ?
  4. How is their service ?

Sometimes when my net position or trade book doesn't load properly I check the margin. If you know what your margin is at all times then you can calculate what your position from it. I always use it for confimation. So if your position is squared off then you'll see the changes there. In case it still shows that margin has been deducted then you still have your position. Since you already know if you are long or short you can place a new trade in the opposite direction which will square off your previous position when the changes are updated. But it is risky if you are not sure what is happening because you get on the wrong side of the market. So if you really need to close your position then you can try that but it may require additional margin depending on the issue. Simply put - where there is cash there is a way
