Transfer of physical stocks owned by someone else

My father owns some stocks in physical format (paper certificates). He wants to transfer it to my demat account which is not a joint account and i'm the solo account holder. Is it possible? Whats the procedure to follow.

you have to get a share transfer form form fill up the same and send it to the company's share transfer registrar. The shares will be transferred in your name in physical form. If you have a demat account, after the shares are transferred in your name, submit the physical certificates to your bank/broker where you have your demat accountalong with one form which the bank/broker will give you . The shares will be transferred in your demat account.

the share transfer form mentioned above will be available with any share broker.

Is there any charges of transferring shares from one person's dmat a/c to another person's dmat a/c. My father has share which was bought 2 months back and now we want to transfer those into my a/c. So would there be any taxes/service charges ?

I donot know about U. P. But in many states, it is next to impossible to find share transfer forms and even if you find one, it is impossible to get share transfer stamps. Govt. does not print it at all.

Easiest solution will be

1. Open a demat account in your father's name. Take care, if the share is in joint name or in the name of firm/HUF etc. open the account in the name of that firm/HUF etc.

2. Demat the physical share certificates.

3. After demat, transfer them to your account in offmarket transaction mode.

The next step is not applicable to you. But this information may help some one else.

4. If the shares are standing in the name of deceased person,

a. Get it transferred in the name of his legal heir/legatee/nominee as the case may be first
b.Thereafter open a demat account in the name of such legal heir/legatee/nominee etc.
c. Demat them thereafter.
