that ranking is based on number of terminals each broker is having: (ET had not given any ranking but it is as per survey done by D&B)

Angel Broking tops the list of brokerages with the most number of trading terminals at 5,081, according to a report by business information provider Dun & Bradstreet.

Motilal Oswal Securities, SMC Global Securities, Indiabulls Securities and Geojit Portfolio Management Services have been ranked second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in terms of trading terminals, while Karvy Stock Broking, Angel Broking, Peerless Securities, Anagram Securities and SMC Global Securities are among the top five (in that order) in terms of number of sub-brokers, the D&B ‘Equity broking houses 2007’ states. Karvy has 15,000 sub-brokers on its rolls.

The above study by D&B vindicates my faith that Angel is the best for retail investors...frankly, its reassuring to see this. I think they are even top in the number of subbrokers. I donot have number off the cuff, but recall their number to be much much higher than 15,000 the one mentioned for karvy.

I don't know how having a minimum-brokerage/trading-day of Rs.30/- (one of the highest in the industry) helps "retail investors", in fact, retail investors are hit hardest by such rules.

They earn a lot by having min brokerage clause
True, Angel may be best among the rest but having clauses like these perhaps points to the fact that they don't care much about their customers' equity & are just intent on squeezing as much as they can from their customers, not an attitude any trader/investor would like to see in a broker :(
