Buying US stocks from India?

#1
Hello everyone!

Firstly, I am new to this forum, so I apologize for my ignorance but I was wondering if any online brokerages in India (ICICI, Reliance Money etc) allow you to buy shares listed in other countries (NYSE, NASDAQ etc). I recently just arrived in India from the US after 5 years and will be in India for about a year and wanted to open a demat account to buy shares here but I'm confused as to which brokerage I should choose. I'd prefer one that provides access to other countries. In the US, I used to use ING sharebuilder. I have closed that account and would like to open one here.

Also, if one buys US stocks from India, what kind of taxes apply (i.e. are they only taxed in India or in the US as well, are the taxes automatically deducted or is there some paperwork on my part)?
I recently got a PAN card and I have bank accounts in India as well as in the US. I am mostly interested in investing long term in mutual funds, ETFs etc. I'd be thankful if you could suggest brokerages which decent research and fees.

As I've said I just arrived in India recently and so I'm pretty ignorant of how things work here. Please help me out or guide me to threads pertaining to these issues. Thanks.

Dear Brother,
As far as I know ,Indian regulatory authorities are not allowed us to trade in International equities. But still some international brokers like IB,ThinkandSwim etc..allowing us to do this.I am not sure about the Tax implications of these trades. If you have an NRE account ,you can do your money transactions through this...
