I use CanMoney, but with a similar interface, so trying to clarify.

'Hold' is a facility to "HOLD' / "Block" the of money specified by you in your linked bank account and will make available those funds to your trading account so that you can go long / short in your chosen instruments. When you HOLD some amount, the said amount is not available for cash withdrawal, but is available for trading.

Same way, when you RELEASE some amount, the said amount is reduced from the amount available for trading, but cash withdrawal from your bank account is increased.

At the end of the day, the actual net amounts will be credited / debited to your bank cash balance / trading balance.

Funds Hold / release options are available to allocate your funds to your Trading account. applicable for trades in equity margin & derivative.

further if u have cancelled any order in the day...the "release" option can be used to release funds.... than having to wait till end of day for the system to release the funds.

hope this helped

If you want to buy Shares/ equities using HDFC ,you cannot click on the "Buy" option. If you do that the system will not "Buy" the shares you specified.

Instead , the First step you do is - click on the " Hold" funds option.
In the box specified enter the amount you want to use to buy the estimated number of shares.

Eg:- If you want to buy 50 shares of Exide, and the current market price is Rs 135/ per share, the total would add up to Rs 6,750. So you need to "hold" funds of at least Rs 6,750 and above.

Second step is to click on the "Buy" option and fill the required boxes and click submit to complete the transaction.

The funds are "held" from your available bank balance in HDFC. If the transaction could not be completed by the end of the day...it will be "released" back into your account.

Placing order online thru HDFC Securities, there is no need to create funds from funds hold and release option and ensure u have allowed pop up blockers in you PC or laptop.
