Proprietary Trading Firm

#1
Hey guys, I am currently doing Eco, Hons from Delhi University. I am in the final year and am looking for a job in a proprietary trading firm. I sat for a company Futures First when it visited our campus a month back. I cleared the first two rounds, but then not the interview stage. Is there any other way that I can try again to apply in this firm?? And are there similar firms operating in India which are willing to hire freshers and offering a similar job profile. Kindly suggest. Since many of the people on this website are engaged in trading operations, I think you will surely be able to provide me some advice.

Regards

Futures First has a policy of not letting you appear for another interview for a period of six months, if you failed to get through in one attempt. That being said, I think Futures First is a great gig for a fresh graduate, and you should try applying in six months time.

Other than Futures First, I haven't really heard of too many well recognized names in the proprietary trading firmament in India. Jaypee Capital is one that you could look at. I tried applying there once, but did not receive a response from the HR.

If that doesn't work out, then I suppose you could try applying to mid-sized broking and sub-broking houses. I'm not sure if they carry a position similar to that of a trader in a prop trading firm, but you should gain valuable information in the process of trying for it.

Good luck!

i've heard future's first only takes IIT/IIM types for good positions ...... and once you get in it gets even tougher, read a case about an IIT topper who was fired from futures first after losing 8kGBP.

IMHO after graduation you should continue ur education only then look for entry into proprietary trading. Go for an MBa from a GOOD institiute then you can go for any job you want ..... and even if your laid off there will be plenty of other employers knocking on your door.

The world is a very hard place and just in case trading doesnt work out you need a backup, with good qualifications you can always get a job or if you have a family business background then thats ok too. In today's world just with grad it will be very tough.

Futures first is not like HDFC mutual fund or some other investment co. .... sure they pay high but if you cant survive they will chuck you out without batting an eyelid.

just my humble opinion
