I do not use hdfc securities personally, but read on a forum that if one is using the broser based interface, they may need to allow popups from that website.

I have also heard that there is some option to release holdings so that you can sell them.

Again , I am not a user of hdfc securities and I have quoted only what I have read.

Since you mention that you are new to HDFC, do you have shares in your demat account? I am assuming that you want to sell equity purchased/demat earlier. It is also assumed that you use the web-based interface.

Prior to selling shares, you must first put them on hold from your demat account. My Trading Account -> Hold & Release -> Demat Balances

Subsequently, place the sell order. Equity & Derivates -> Buy/Sell

You are probably missing the first step. Please also refer to other related threads where similar questions were asked:

Hi, placing order thru HDFSec there is no need to create a hold in your Demat account as system will create a hold frm your account but you have to disable the pop up blocker bcoz you will get the pop up like "shortfall of so & so funds from your sacing account noxxxxx" while placing buy order & "dp shortfall of so & so shares" while placing sell order so as you say submit then again confirm order page will come & as you say confirm you will get broker reference no.xxxxx which means that your order has been sent to the exchange.

For more you may have a look View Demo in HDFCSEC site i.e www.hdfcsec.com & for more query you may contact there customer care desk
