Thanks for the above info Vijay and Munnabhai. My questions along the original post's lines are:

1. What is the difference between an NRI trading acct. and RI trading acct?

2. If I'm using an online brokerage, is it not possible to just log into it from a location outside India? granted, the timezones are different, but what's to stop me from placing "after market hours" orders?

3. If #2, above, is possible, then would it also be possible to withdraw cash directly to an Indian bank acct. that is registered with my online brokerage?

I really hope 2 and 3 are possible, as I intend on traveling abroad soon for an MBA and wish to continue trading in the Indian stock market once there.

Dear pjaveed,
no intraday and f&o trading for nri aacts.also not able to trade some scrips(as per rbi).also have to give transaction charges to bank per trade.

but no restrictions for domestic traders.

Why is it so? I am also pretty new to trading. I want to know why NRIs are not allowed to trade intraday, F&O, etc.,
