Open and close price

Hi ..
In icicidirect website while checking daily share price what does Open price and Close price of any share exactly indicate.

Is todays Open price Yesterdays Close price?

If someone could explain this in layman's language I would appreciate

Open Price - Price traded at the time of opening at 9.55 AM / First traded price
Close Price - Price traded at time of closing of market at 3.30PM / Last traded price.
