How to shortlist the stocks from the list of around 1288 stock

#1

I am a novice in stock market. I have been learning a lot from this forum in both technical as well as in fundamental analysis.

Experts and mentors have being teaching on buying and selling and how to determine and predict the good stocks.

I have being downloading bhavcopy everyday and using excel for calculations, apart from using the online tools and charts.

:sos:
My Question is how does one pick or shortlist the stocks from the list of around 1288 stock from NSE-bhavcopy so that those short listed

Stocks can be further analyzed or researched ahead for there charting trends or for there P/Es etc.

:thanx:

To start with, go for some A group scrips. Then as you learn, you can go into B group and other group scrips.

Thanks Bunny,
Though some lists available on Internet like
  1. Groups A,B,C etc
  2. Stocks on SENSEX List
  3. Stocks on Nifty List
  4. Pre-Defined Search from ICICI like Poor Man's stocks, Year's top performers etc

As you said I should learn Group A,B & C by the time I learn about all the groups I will have to check each and every graphs of 1288 stocks daily... which will be an exhaustive exercise and I think it might take whole of my day.

Again I don't want to randomly pick 20 stocks for study and try to find best from that lot.

In my mind what I want is that I should sieve all 1288 stock in some scientific/research based manner using some tools/methods and then go ahead with further analysis.

Hi,

You can short list based on Total Traded Volume. If the 'TOTTRDVAL' is high then it is a liquid stock. If you limit the volume upto 20,00,00 then you will endup with around 500-600 stocks.

your idea is very good. keep trying in this direction, you might find something of immense value.

google about "Relative Strength" and read some material on it. that might be one of the criteria to pick up the potential stocks

regards and best of luck

I did some searching and found a thread from traderji itself.
http://www.traderji.com/equities/17454-scanner-filters-indian-stocks.html

What I am looking for is scanner-filter.
From here I got to know www.rupeeking.com is good and is for indian stocks.

For Past two weeks I have been doing some R&D on the lists given by them. Checking Graphs here are my observations (I might be completely wrong... so don't trust)

Stocks good to sell when stocks are in list of
  1. Bullish 50/200 MA Crossover
  2. New 52 Week High
  3. Strong Volume Gainers

Stocks good to to buy if they are in list of
  1. Strong Volume Gainers
  2. New 52 Week High
  3. Moved Above Upper Bollinger Band

Also other combinations for stocks to buy are
  1. Bullish Morning Star
  2. Moved Above Upper Bollinger Band
  3. Strong Volume Gainers

and
  1. Bearish MACD Crossovers
  2. Bullish 50/200 MA Crossover
  3. New 52 Week High
  4. Shooting Star

I will wait for 1 month to see to check out prices and graphs to conclude if my observations are good.

I know there can't be any absolute rule for scanning - filtering best buy stocks still if anyone can help me on refining my observations please do.

You must be an expert by now :) Right now I am in the same boat as you were, when you started. I am interested in knowing how long did it take you to get a good grip on trading, so that you executed each trade with confidence.
