Hello everybody. I am Anindya from Kolkata. I didnt want to create another newbie thread here. i asked a senior member a question through private message. But unfortunately he didnt reply. But i really need help regarding few questions. I didnt really find answers to these questions after reading many threads here. I hope someone will surely help me.
BTW i have my a/c in Indiabulls. 1. I have short IOC before few days. It was in cash segment. But i dont know how to square it off. Plz tell me. 2. How to square off position in intraday either short sell or short cover. 3. How to calculate the brokerage. My RM told me that he will charge 0.03/0.3 for intraday and delivery. I read many threads in the Beginner section here and came to know that the rate is ok. 4. In cash segment there is an option in SELL option which tells "Sell shares not in DP" is it the opposite of delivery buy? 5. Suppose i bought abc for rs.100 and i would like to sell it for rs.110 then how can i give the instruction? 6. Suppose I would like to buy abc when it comes down to rs.95 from rs.100. How can i do that? This much for now. Waiting for help. Plz do help me out. Thank You. |

Dear Anindya,
Welcome to the forum. All of your questions are simple and straight forward. Just consult your broker or consult user's help kind of thing if do some web based trading, or speak to people who trade. I suggest you to check Beginners Guide section of this forum, you may find things useful. Cheers |

Thank you Gsalvadi and Suba_Stocks for taking the trouble of answering the thread. I have read most of the threads in the Beginner`s section before posting these questions. I really didnt find proper answers. I am looking for them for a long time. It would really help me if somebody takes the trouble of helping me out with these questions. Atleast if question 4,5,6 is answered it would be of great help.
Waiting for answers... Last edited by techani; 19th November 2008 at 10:29 PM. Reason: Change in reply. |

Most probably, the place where you have the option of Short Sell, you must have the option of 'Short cover' also. Short cover means buying back the shares you sold in Short Sell. Check the demo of How to trade with Indiabulls. Also, (in Sharekhan) the shorted shares have the expiry period of that day only i.e. if you have shorted shares on a particualr day, you should buy them back that day itself otherwise they will be traded automatically (and at a price you may not like). Thank You so much Abhishek and ARMHM for taking the trouble of replying me. Let me come back to the questions..
Regarding question 1. I told i shorted the IOC share in cash segment and not in intraday. I think you missed it. Anyway now does the auction part arise now? I see in the "Portfolio" option and in the "Negative Holding" section the IOC share is still there. 5. Let me explain this question with an example. Suppose I bought share abc at rs.100 for intraday. Now its going up rs102..104..105..108(nice movement!). Now when i am trying to put a stoploss sell order it tells me that the Trigger Price has to be lower than the LTP and the Limit Price. What I understand is that we can only sell it if the share price is going down from 100. Like rs99..97..96 etc. But i want to sell it when its going up. 6. This question is also same like the above but for the reverse trade. Suppose i shorted it in intraday. Say share abc for rs100. Now it starts moving downward. rs 99..98..97 etc. Now i want to buy it back. But when i try to give the stploss buy order by giving Trigger Price at rs98 and Limit Price at rs97. It says that the Trigger Price must be above LTP and below Limit Price. I hope I have been able to explain it to you properly. Waiting for you kind replies. |

My answers (am afraid they are almost same )1. From what I know you have to buy back the shares before the end of the day (in cash segment) otherwise the option of auction arises...so check out with your broker as to what is it that is being shown....Also, are you able to cover(buy back) these IOC shares, try to do that... 5. You need to use only 'Limit price' and not LP and SP loss both. Stop loss is used to stop the loss... here's the e.g. Suppose you buy ABC's shares for Rs 100 each. Now you want to curtail your losses in case the price goes down. So you put a Stop Loss of 95 Rs (say). This means that when the price falls to 95 Rs, your shares would be sold automatically, thus reducing your losses to Rs 5 per share. Limit price on the other hand is used to make a certain profit. As already explained in my previous post, put ONLY limit price and you'll find no problem... In short cover also, put only limit price (the amount at which you want to buy back) and there shouldn't be a hitch Abhishek |
