Difficulties in using Amibroker

#1
Hello everybody,

As a new user of Amibroker, migrating from MS11 to Ami 5.3, I am facing some teething problems. Ami is certainly more customisable than Metastock which I was using for years. While looking for a solutions during this transition, I felt need of a thread where technical nitty-gritties of this charting software can be discussed. So I am opening this thread pertaining to discussions on such issues. I hope many newbies will be benefitted from it. I also request support and patronage from experienced users.

Now let me tell one of my problems. I am using 10-sheet charts in Ami. I am trying to apply different trading system afls to price charts of different sheets. However each time I am ending up with all trading systems getting applied to all sheets and not to a particular one. How can I get rid of this?

Your help is highly solicited.

Sudip

Sorry for sounding trash. Perhaps I wasn't able to communicate the problem properly and so that didn't make any sense to you. Whenever I am doubclicking any afl, it just gets applied to all the charts! Being a novice in Ami, I am stuck. So far I know only global properties behave like this, and this doesn't belong to that category. So, why? Thats the question. Still experimenting.

And thank you for your response.

Again it doesn't make sense to me. I have understood very well. If you choose a different sheet then it won't get applied on other sheets. Maybe you mean something differently but calling it sheet.

Other than that why don't you use most recent version if you are a novice?

based on your word, I picturized to see what you means as you think below:

The question is did the indicator inserted into each sheet. did you tap the sheet to flick and see whether the indicator is on all the 10 sheets ?

I did not see the problem. Trash is right, don't make sense.

This is the demo version that i downloaded and worked properly. please test out as above picture.

If you faced your described problem again, show your picture and detailed steps

If i gussed it right, then - Probably the Symbol Link box is enabled.
Symbol Link Box ...... is a small box next to the last Sheet 8 (?).
Last Sheet is followed by a lock symbol, then Symbol Link & Interval Link.

If Symbol Link is enabled then it is colored. Click on each sheet & check color.
To disable Symbol Link click on it & you will know what to do next.

By the way I travelled in a Ship that sailed a bit earlier then yours......I switched from MS to Ami around 3 monts earlier... though I continue using both ....but less of MS.

Did you know? you can use Metastock data in Ami simultaneously?

Play with it for some days. All the best.

4Candles and Sudip

you both took a careful and judged decision to migrate to amibroker from metastock.

use ami , and u can get the feel of ami - its beautiful, cute and powerful as a charting sw

and finally after some times u will stop to use metastock - its my belief.

till then happy use of ami

search tj and u will find a treasure house of resources of ami here

Let me first thank all of u equally for various reasons, the first of all obviously showing interest in this thread and taking pain in answering such a silly question.

trash> I had installed Ami before some time, may be a couple of years back. And as wasn't using it, so it wasn't been upgraded to latest one. I am waiting to gain a reasonable comfort in using it. Upgradation requires no expertise. Once familiar, I will certainly go for that. But if can't drive a car what's the use of having the latest sportscar in my stable? At present I am getting myself familiar with an older version of the car. And thanks anyway.

KelvinHand> Like all your previous post in TJ, I enjoued your this post also. You dealt the issue in a very positive approach. The problem was described in plain and simple words. Perhaps I am making some very eliminary mistakes somewhere which are so basic that you the expert guys wont able to sense. Hense putting up a screen shot may help. Following your advice I will try to put up one.

In recent past, Subroto asked someone to look your posts for some afl. In reply, that person expressed his inability to find you in google! Most likely he hadn't done that also. I don't belong to that group. I always try to make best use of resources available to me. I am am doing the same thing to solve this problem.

4candles> I checked it but that is not the case. However I didn't know that padlock. Thanks for enlightening me.

Subroto> Thank you so much for the encouragement and support. I have no hesitation in stating that Ami is more powerful than MS. However most salient part of Ami is its endless opportunity of data manipulation. Unfortunately I am not proficient in coding. But with help of such supportive people like you guys, I will learn it someday.

One possibility just ran accross my mind. Perhaps the afl itself is written in such way that becomes global and gets applied to all sheet. Is it possible? Both you and KelvinHand are efficient coders, you can comment on that. The afl once applied, gets attached to OHLC charts of all sheets. Yes, I know what a sheet means in Ami.

Thanks to all of U once more.

Just another query. Ami can read MS database without any problem. Can anyone tell me, whether the other way round is also possible?

MS can have only 65000 bars per symbol. Ami can have unlimited number of bars per symbol. But Ami can export to any ASCII format such as 20130307,191030,Open,High,Low,Close,Vol,Open Interest with set bar limit of 65000. So if MS can import ASCII then there should be no problem
