It is showing me the following error message when I pick up the .txt file from the folder.

Logging started for 'C:\Program Files\amibroker\bhavcopy\BSE\2010-12-24-BSE-EQ.txt' file, using format definition file 'Formats\wizard.format'
Error in line <ticker>,<date>,<open>,<high>,<low>,<close>,<volum e>,<o/i>
Invalid (close) price. Prices must be positive. If you want to import no quotation data please specify $NOQUOTES 1 ('no quotation data' box in Wizard)
Invalid date format/value

this is what one line in the data file looks like.

<ticker>,<date>,<open>,<high>,<low>,<close>,<volum e>,<o/i>
533022,20101224,41.45,44.80,41.45,44.55,6183

am i using the right kind of file? as this is downloaded from a hemankapadia. com.

is there a better place to download the bhavcopy? Do i have to convert this bhavcopy file to suit the amibroker database?

what is meant by ascii file???

Thank you for your help..

Your columns are NOT correct. You see where it says ticker. There is no ticker in your file. Make sure the column headings match the data in the file
It looks like it should be <time> <date> <open> <high> <low> <close>
Just look...obviously your first line "533022" is not a ticker. :thumb:

I think it worked !!! atleast no errors this time !!

THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!

now comes another beginners question :)

on the main page there are some toolbars that appear on the left side of the screen such as symbols and beneath that is interpretation.

The actual chart should appear to the right of them but i exited that window and don't know how to get it back.

Sorry for being such a noob at this, but your guidance is just priceless.

Thanks,

Nupur.. :)

I tried the things u asked. including selecting my columns properly.

But it still says that minimum 3 bars are required to create chart.

:( its not working !!

dn load the ascii database from livenifty.com from dnload section(ascii format), unzip in a separate folder. now creat a database in amibroker using file>new>database( see help file how to do that for eod).better not in c\programmefile\amibroker. the ascii data can be imported to amibroker using file>importwizard. import it serially by year one at a time , review the chart and then select next year.
select the all files of a year by ctrl+A.
u can update daily by the application of datadownloader of joy or from that livenifty.com after 7pm evryday.
and trial version do not save data so eod not maintainable with trial version of amibroker(if use trial version)
for metastock it will be esay to have database easily from that site just dnload and unzip in a folder. opem meta and browse that folder.
